Bookshop Description:

Lochinver Bookshop is the new name of Inverbank Books and Newsagents, which was formed in 2019 as a business partnership between my brother, father (now deceased), and myself. I added the book side of the business after Achins Bookshop (Dickson's are close family) was sold and closed, where I worked for over 10 years. From the 31st of October 2023, we will discontinue the newspapers and magazines and I will focus on bringing Lochinver Bookshop to fruition. I have an MLitt in Highlands and Islands Culture from the UHI, and a Bachelor of Liberal Arts from an International University College in the Netherlands. My home based interests focus on and around Community Regeneration and Land Management. Once the shop renovations have been completed, I will sell a small selection of second-hand instruments, to complement the sale of music books and promote Scottish and Gaelic music. I will also stock one-off locally made artisan knitwear, as well as continuing to support and promote local authors. Lochinver Bookshop will be a destination Bookshop which specialises in community land literature, geology, music, community narratives, nature, and the outdoors. It will maintain the nostalgia of both Inverbank and Achins as places to buy toys and enjoy music, but it will also be a hub of local information, in which I will be partnered with land owning and managing organisations to help spread ideas, knowledge, and most importantly stories. My business ethos is to work with and alongside other businesses instead of in direct competition, which is why I have plans to propose a new book festival encompassing Assynt, Coigach, and Ullapool. Currently, I am working with Business Gateway on a substantial shop renovation. The theme of the interior decor will be based loosely around 'Lord of the Rings,' and the shop will be an in-store and online book selling business by the summer of 2024.
